Shillong Tour

Shillong Tour

Shillong is capital of Meghalaya a state of Northeast of India. Meghalaya name was given by Rabindranath Tagore. Shillong is also calling Scotland of India

Our Tour to Shillong was planned to celebrate the New Year of 2018 at the Shillong Police Bazar :)

How to Reach:    29th Dec 2017 we took Guwahati Express from Howrah Station, it was scheduled at 11:15 AM but was late by 2 hours. This train comes from Bangalore/Bengaluru to Howrah then leaves for Guwahati. There are several trains run from Howrah to Guwahati and to reach Shillong You need to go to Guwahati either by train or Flight.
If you are travelling in the months of winter, try to avoid train as it generally reaches very late to Guwahati. For our case it was late by 12 Hours when it reached Guwahati Station. From Station you can book cab or can book cab earlier through Hotel or Agencies.  We had early booked from hotel.

You can have experience to travel by Helicopter from Guwahati Airport to Shillong Army Helipad and vice versa. 👇

Best Time to Visit: If you are travelling in the Winter then Dawki is the best Place and during monsoon you can enjoy all the Waterfalls. Summer is not that great in Shillong.

Day 1: We took cab and reached Shillong within 3.5 Hours also visited Umiam Lake on the way.
It is very placid and huge. You can have pleasant experience there also can spend time taking deep breathe. This place is nice for photo shoot as well.

Here is my Shutterstock Link to the Umiam:

In the Evening we reached Shillong and spent the evening watching Sunset from the Hotel Balcony.

Day 2 (31st Night): Today we had a long plan, after breakfast from the hotel we headed for 3 places Dawki River, Mawlynnong and finally one of the finest restaurants (City Hut Family Dhaba) at the Police Bazaar.
From Shillong to Dawki, it was around 65 Kms which would take around 2 hours to reach. If you are travelling during winter, you can have boating out there in the river, you also can be at the river border of Bangladesh. If you are DUDE of gang then spend winter night camping beside the Dawki river.
After boating at crystal clear Dawki river we reached to Mawlynnong  village which is 1 hour journey from there. It is really the cleanest village of Asia. You can roam around the village and can have your lunch there. There is one tree staircase from where you can view the beauty of Nature and land of Bangladesh.
From there we went to single living Root bridge and had a good time there. The double Decker root bridge a bit far from that location but you have to spend a whole for that as you have trek for few kilometers.
After that we returned to Shillong and went for new year eve party and dinner at the restaurant.
The whole was just awesome :)

Day 3:  We left in the morning and headed for Cherrapunji, though it is the world's highest rainfall area but due to winter we had no experience of rainfall. So, to enjoy this place one must visit during monsoon. There is Seven Sister's fall but had not that much water. You can enjoy an Eco Garden just beside it.
After that we went to Elephant Waterfalls which is near to Shillong, and it keeps flowing throughout year. You can have good photo session and chill out there on the way back to Shillong from Cherrapunji. In the evening, we returned to hotel and spent a leisure time in the Balcony.

Day 4: Today is the last day of our trip and time to go back home. We had train booking but it was already running late for 12 Hours so, we had to cancel the train and book flight ticket immediately from Guwahati to Kolkata. After 2 days of reaching home, I checked the status of the train (Saraighat Express) which reached Howrah in 36 Hours which is actually 18 Hours late.
So, better be avoid train for any trip to Northeast via Guwahati rather take flight from any part of India or Abroad.

We had missed the first day sightseeing at Shillong because of the late arrival of train, so you can add your itinerary with Shillong Sight Seeing and this place will give you to experience Helicopter ride and Camping at Dawki River.
SO, Have fun in Shillong.
